Volunteer FAQs

We don’t set a limit!

Yes, we have a few opportunities for volunteers that do not live on Arran. These could be supporting our educational, communications, campaigning or research activities.

We welcome people with all sorts of skills and experience – you don’t have to be a marine biologist!  We need a wide range of volunteers doing all sorts of things – from working at a computer, decorating or building things, undertaking artwork or research, talking to people, working with children, or being out and about at one of our events– we will match what you bring to a role to suit you.

This varies depending on the volunteering role. We have volunteering opportunities available during the week, at weekends, and occasionally during the evening.

Volunteering takes place at our Octopus Centre in Lamlash Bay, out and about at events in the area, and occasionally at other venues around the island.

Alternatively – If you would like to do something where you live to support COAST, get in touch! We would love to hear your ideas.

Volunteers are not paid but can claim approved expenses.

Depending on your volunteer role with us, you will receive specific training. All volunteers will attend a short induction session and receive a volunteer handbook.

No, but we can help you by signposting you to various options that have worked for our volunteers in the past.

Probably both! Much of our work is actually indoors so this will depend on factors such as the time of year, and what needs to be done.
