Northern gannets photo prized

Richard Shucksmith’s image of diving gannets (who can dive up to 15 metres at 60 mph) has won Bird Protographer of the Year. Up to 60% of Europe’s gannets, Britain’s largest seabird, choose to live in Scotland. We see them often on the shores of Arran’s MPA. The closest colony to Arran is on Ailsa Craig or “Fairy Rock”, where 35,000 breeding pairs live.
