This consultation provided an opportunity to comment on a Planning Position Statement, that will guide how the Scottish Government proceeds with the review and update of Scotland’s National Marine Plan (NMP). The Planning Position Statement proposed to remove Sea Fisheries as a key area in the NMP (effectively delegating all planning considerations about commercial wild-capture fishing to the Future of Fisheries Management Strategy and other processes which have limited accountability, to the public). This proposal, in our eyes, also weakens the environmental goals of the NMP and threatens to undermine legal comitments to protect Scotland’s marine environment.
Our colleagues at Open Seas wrote an interesting blog on this consultation, which you can read here.
