An extensive flame shell bed (c. 10,000m2) has been discovered in the South Arran Marine Protected Area by local recreational divers/citizen scientists. As only the second known remaining flame shell bed in the Clyde marine region, this is a significant and exciting discovery not just for Arran but for biodiversity interests throughout the whole of Scotland.
We are delighted to welcome Áine Purcell-Milton to the COAST team as our new Executive Director, who joins us with a background in coastal community engagement and environmental education.
