We actively campaign for marine protection, restoration and sustainable management around Arran and in the Clyde and work with politicians, the Marine Conservation Society, Fauna and Flora International, Scottish Environment Link, Scottish Natural Heritage and many others. We work to influence Government, fishing and aquaculture industries to adopt non-destructive, sustainable fishing methods. TWEETS BY ARRAN COAST
In March 2021, North Ayrshire Council Planning Committee unanimously refused the Scottish Salmon Company’s application for a salmon farm off the north east coast of Arran at Millstone Point. There was masss community opposition to this farm, which would have spoiled one of Arran’s truly wild and tranquil coastlines.
The ECCLR Committee published an interim report on its inquiry into regional marine planning in Scotland earlier this year. As part of the interim report, the Committee set our a series of questions which they put to various stakeholders. Read COAST’s response here.
A month of public consultation has closed; we expect North Ayrshire Planning Committee to meet in early 2021 to discuss the application.
