Art in Mind was established some years ago as a joint venture between Arran Visual Arts and the Community Mental Health team who make referrals to the group.
The Art group meet weekly and we recently welcomed them to the Discovery Centre for one of their meetings. They used the marine tank as inspiration for their drawings and shells and crab moults as items to sketch. Our on-duty volunteer enjoyed talking them round the creatures they were drawing, including sharing fun facts and highlighting how we are helping protect them. The volunteer also talked the attendees through videos playing on the screen, highlighting current research done by the charity and the wonderful creatures found under the sea.
The group meet weekly, and is an art group for residents of Arran suffering from Mental Health conditions led by qualified artists. The aim of the group is to reduce social isolation, providing a safe and relaxed environment where people can socialise, while being creative. This increases attendees confidence, and enhances feelings of well-being.
