Fishery measures to protect stocks need to account for the effect of fishing practices on seabed habitats, which can impact juvenile survival. Underwater cameras show that juvenile Atlantic cod prefer shallow, sheltered habitats with gravel, pebbles and maerl while haddock and whiting prefer deep sand and mud.
