COAST go to CADISPA

April News

A COAST delegation attended the annual CADISPA conference held at the Ballachulish Hotel between the 11th -13th of March. This was an excellent opportunity to meet up with other community groups from all around Scotland. COAST were asked to give 2 talks:-

  1. About COAST ,who we are ,what are our aims, & how are we going about achieving them.
  2. Dealing with Politicians & the Press. We were asked to do this one due to the late withdrawal of an MSP and because we were the community organisation, who had had to campaign using the press & making contact with politicians MPs,MSPs & MEPs.
  3. Both PowerPoint presentations seemed to go very well but the main point of the weekend was to meet lots of community groups all working hard in there own way to improve their own & Scotland’s rural Communities.

COAST GO FINNISH

At an international level, between 5th & 8th of April, COAST members went to Finland on an Inter Island Exchange visit. COAST were joined by other Scottish Islanders from Jura, Fair Isle, Shetland & The Hebridean Partnership. We were able to swap experiences with other European Islanders from Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland and France about how local communities are dealing with issues concerning the marine environment. A paper has been produced on the insights obtained from this trip.
